College is meant to be a challenge but don’t let that intimidate you. But, you can do it. College success starts with a good knowledge base. This article will help you traverse the path much more easily.

College is filled with a lot of stress as the best thing that you can do in regards to school is to prepare in advance. Avoid procrastination at all times, as this will only add to the stresses that you already face. By doing your work ahead of time, you can feel prepared and organized as college goes on.

When you enter your room on the first day of college, the best thing that you can do is to fraternize with your roommates. These are going to be the people that you spend the rest of the year with so it is very smart to make friends with them immediately.

When choosing your major, think about the kind of job you want, but think about the person you are. If you are someone who doesn’t want to get up before noon, for example, you might not want to choose a major where the job possibilities require you to work early in the morning.

Buy your school books a couple weeks before the term begins. Spend an hour familiarizing yourself with each of your books. If you have access to your course syllabus, check it out and see where in the book your class will be starting. This way you can get a bit of a head start.

Make the effort to get to know each of your instructors. Use office hours to visit each instructor at least once during the term. If the instructor is teaching a class in your major or intended major, spend more time in office hours. When you need a letter of recommendation, it will be easier if your instructors know you.

Make certain that you have your FAFSA submitted very early in the year. This is the financial aid that is automatically given by the government. The earlier you apply, the more certain you are to receive your benefits. Sometimes, the finances can run out, especially at smaller educational institutions. Be prepared!

If you wish to avoid the “freshman 15,” avoid eating too many simple carbs. Do not eat sugary snacks and processed foods. Instead, consume as many fresh vegetables and fruit as you can. Also focus on whole grain foods. Both of these choices will help you feel more energized. Do not eat high protein foods because it could cause problems in your health.

When you go to college you often times will stay out late with friends to study or go to a party. Be safe, never walk home alone, carry your phone with you at all times, know where the safe zones are on campus, and consider carrying a small spray canister of pepper spray with you.

As a college student, you will have access to many different jobs on campus. If you do not already have a good job, you should look for a job on campus. You should choose a job that will allow you to acquire some new skills and meet some interesting people.

Schedule daily study time. There are many ways to fill your time in school, but you must focus on your education as well. Promise yourself that you will study for one hour each day. Even if you think you don’t need to study, do it anyway. That will make it a habit.
