Study as much as possible each day. You will get more from your education if you put more time into it. Socializing is fine, but you need to devote a certain amount of time to studying each day. Succeeding in college paves the way to a more lucrative career.

Learn how to write an essay using the “5 Paragraph Essay” format. This is a simple essay format that is often taught in elementary or middle school. Although it is simple to learn, it is invaluable in college. This format will help you easily get through most essay assignments.

Make sure that you purchase a pair of flip flops for showers in your dorm. These are essential as you do not know the forms of bacteria that are on the shower floor. Also, they can serve as a form of comfort for you during your shower. Flip flops are inexpensive and can be stylish, as they make a great addition to your shower arsenal.

Consider living on campus even if you go to school close to home. Not only will you miss a lot of things going on, but you may miss out on your first opportunity to live on your own and make your own financial and social decisions. If you can possibly afford it, live in a dorm.

If you can you should open up a bank account at a bank that also has branches in your home town. This way it will be easier for your parents to put money into your account and it be available right away instead of having to wait 3-5 business days.

Balance your class load with classes you need along with at least one elective that you enjoy. Often students are faced with classes that are needed for graduation, yet do not want to take them. This makes it important to get it finished sooner than later. Who wants to be the lone senior in a basic class overrun by freshmen?

Make time each day for studying. College has many distractions, but you can set aside some time. You need to spend at least a couple of hours a day to catch up on your studies and do some research. Do it religiously regardless of how you’re feeling. That will make it a habit.

Find out if your college or university has a tutoring center. Most colleges do offer these programs, often run by peer tutors. Seeking help from a fellow student can be a huge help in classes in which you struggle. Come to your sessions armed with specific questions to enable your tutor to make the most of your time.

Don’t focus on your friends back home or a boyfriend or girlfriend in your home town. Chances are you will not stay together through four years of college and you will grow apart. Just enjoy college, meet new people, and feel lucky that you have the opportunity to get away from home to better yourself and branch out.

Think about studying abroad. Look at the opportunities offered by the school, but don’t let that box you in. If you want to study in another country, you need to find out everything that is available to you. You might even be able to find something better outside of your school.
